I was previously a member of the Human Interface Device (HID) Prototyping Group at Apple. HID Prototyping is a small exploratory design team of hybrid designers/developers. This team explores what new technologies might bring to current and future Apple products. As a member of the team, it was my job to invent and propose new features and sometimes entirely new products.
Most teams at Apple are dedicated to the next version of a product that will be released in six months to a year. I worked outside that cycle, across all products, to create new things that might take longer or require deeper exploration.
While many of the projects I worked on during my time at Apple are confidential because they are unreleased, some released products and features I prototyped for include:
A few of the features and products the team has prototyped for over the years include:
- iPhone 7 Plus camera
- Touch Bar on MacBook Pro
- Apple Pencil and drawing features
- iPad + iPad Pro
- Force Touch trackpad on MacBook Pro
- Taptic feedback on MacBook trackpad
- 3D touch on iPhone
