Understanding Risk Conference 2024
Through my studio, Everything Good Studio, I worked with the World Bank to create the content for the Understanding Risk Forum 2024 in Himeji, Japan. The conference brought together over 1,700 disaster risk management experts and practitioners from 135 countries, a record number of attendees.
Our team prototyped, engineered, and fabricated custom interactive lighting for the conference. In addition, we developed dynamic on-screen content which included motion graphics animations powered by generative AI.
We created 10 wireless, remotely-controlled lanterns that were used on-stage during the opening ceremony. These lanterns were designed and programmed to appear as if there were glowing fireflies inside. Each lantern was brought out on stage one at a time by a series of speakers at the conference. As the speakers bring out the lanterns, we wirelessly triggered animations, that are synched with on-screen motion-graphics, making it magically appear as if the fireflies are flying out of the lanterns and onto the screens.
In the closing section, the lanterns cycle through carefully-timed series of colorful patterns that synch with the on-screen animations.
